Hawai'i

Because Blogger has a mind of it's own (and I don't speak programming code) these photos are backwards. Shrug.

What a great trip! Early hours at the Kona no-walls airport on the journey home.

Curse you beautiful clouds! We wanted so much to go up the mountain to star gaze but the 2 nights we could do it, the cloud cover went up to far. Bummer!

Sweet triathlon tan.
Last dip in the pool.

3 birds chilling in the condo parking lot.

Highlight of our Hawai'i vacation was Alex opening his mission call. I admit that I suggested he just open it right away and then we could tell everyone later, but Dan and Alex wanted to have a big moment at the Kona Temple! The laughs could not be contained to learn that Alex is going to the Provo Utah mission. It is going to be awesome, but ironic!

Shaved ice, the best way!
Mango, strawberry, boba, mochi, cream and a scoop of vanilla ice cream in the middle. YUM!
Seahorse farm.

In honor of all the celebrations, sushi night!
Alex's first use of chopsticks.
"Quick, pullover!"

Beautiful white sand beach by the Marriott Resort.
Ryan and mom.
Ryan got blisters snorkeling so he didn't want to get sand and salt water in his wounds. This mango tree offered him a shady hide away.

This came from the same shop as the shaved ice. Super delicious.
I never adjusted very well to the time change. I got up before sunrise and decided to take a hike on a jungle trail. I could hear lots and lots of tropical birds. But these 3 were the only ones willing to pose for the camera.

This rooted and bumpy path is supposed to be a mountain bike path. No thanks.
I was a bit nervous when I got out of the car and the chickens make a bee line for me! No worries, they backed off when I didn't offer them food.

When our luau fell through, we went to a local restaurant. MJ had steak, shrimps, and pasta. Trifecta of deliciousness.

All dressed up for the cancelled luau. Pouring rain isn't good for outside meals!

Black sand beach. There was a really cool reef here for snorkeling.

Insert "Family goes for a Manta Ray excursion". No pictures because it was at night and basically a snorkel trip. It was really cool to have them come right up to the raft.

We made it to the church parking lot. Dan, MJ and Ry in their swimsuits. Alex tried to climb out of the car and was hit by a crushing leg cramp: post race pains! I ran him home. When I got back, I hung out on the temple grounds while I waited for Sacrament meeting to finish.
Insert "Dan, Ryan and Macey go Parasailing" here. Alex and I walked around and enjoyed some sea life.

View from our balcony at sunrise.
Insert "Alex does an Ironman" right here. During the 3 hour bike ride, we went to breakfast and the beach.
A seal just resting on a pretty awesome strip of sand right next to the condo.

Insert "Family goes Ziplining" here.

After a fun day, where do we eat?? We found lots of yummy places. Note that Ry was on his phone the whole vacation. Wait, except on the parasailing trip. See his smile there!
Snorkel cruise.

Yay, for Dan! His all time favorite thing to do anywhere in the world that there are fish in clear water.

Thank you for the warm welcome, Hawai'i!

We were so blessed to be able to enjoy this family vacation all together before Alex leaves on his mission. He accomplished an amazing feat. He knows how to work hard and to enjoy the journey. So proud of him. And so thankful to Daniel for footing the bill. He loves the ocean and building memories with his kids! He was the most excited to share in Alex's race and mission paper opening. He is a proud dad of 3 great kids!
