Additions

Saturday we traded our Accord in for this 2005 Pilot. It was owned by an old couple that took awesome care of it. The third row doesn't look like anyone has ever used it. It only has 28,ooo miles on it and was so clean when they brought it in (just for an oil change but decided to buy an '09 pilot instead) that we took it home within one day of it being on the lot. It drives just like the Accord only with a little more power and a lot higher off of the ground.
The reason I'm posing in front of this jewel is because it was requested to see a shot of my 4 month (17 weeks) belly. We found out today that this new little addition will be wearing pink! Hoorah! No, don't ask about names. I have a name I like but Dan is a bit picky in that department, so we'll see where the negotiations take us. I presume she'll have a name much sooner than Ryan did (most kids do!) OK, and as a side note Alex remembers going to get Ryan's ultrasound. How can he remember that? He was only 2.5 at the time. Oh, the things he'll be telling his shrink when he is old... 'And when I was sitting in my bouncer my mother watched this loud movie with astronauts and I have been obsessed ever since.' A little dramatic, but really it isn't all that comforting that he remembers everything. He loves me, so I guess he has overlooked my lack of patience and harsh discipline. At least he'll remember my birthday...

Game Ball

Alex got the game ball last night. He had two hits and two runs. Way to go!

A great day!

The weather today was fabulous. It could be the last of the below 90deg weather we'll have, and so we have to make the most of it. Ryan and I went on an adventure. Tell that to your 3 year old and you'll be starting the day off right every time.
Our adventure took us to Enchanted Island in Encanto Park. If you go to their website you can get $2 off a child wristband and a 'buy a hotdog get a free large soda' coupon. I bought 4 tickets for me to go on the train twice and I didn't have to pay to ride with Ryan to go on the carousel.

Ryan had a great time going on all the rides as much as he wanted. The Dragon Wagon made an impact on Ryan, 'I felt like I was going to puke.' Yep, he went on it again. We had a cheap lunch; only $3.50 for a hot dog, large drink, and churro. We stopped by Dad's work to show him the pics and the wristband. A great day that ended up being just shy of $20. I'm glad we did it. On the way Ryan said, 'What about Dad and Alex? Let's go get Alex.' Er, do you have a Kindergartner? I love my big boy, but we can leave him in school and it is OK! Once we got there he never mentioned them again. I know Alex would enjoy it, but I had a fun day with my Ryan.

Easter Weekend

Friday morning Ryan asks to play a computer game. So I open the CD drive and out comes teeny tiny pieces of a crushed CD. Ryan uses the tower as a step stool to get in the chair and managed to crush a CD inside. It took me 3 hours to get out the pieces. I tried shaking and tweezering out pieces. I called the geek squad and the guy said, 'you'll probably just have to buy a new one anyway so just open it all up and take out the pieces.' I was sure Dan would have a fit if I called and said, 'Hey, I'm just going to open up the belly of the beast and have at it.' So, I acted on my own. It was actually quite easy. And I watched a few college buddies mess around inside their towers so I wasn't all that worried about it. Ryan and I then jumped in the car and drove to Deseret Book in Glendale, which is a jaunt for us. I had promised Alex to get him some scriptures and he keeps asking. No time like a religious holiday to pick up a set of scriptures and other goodies. Oh, and Ryan really wanted a Penguin animated flick and cried the whole (very long jaunt) home saying, 'Go back. I want the penguin movie!' Alex came home from school that day and proclaimed, 'we had an Easter pary!' Uh, they can't have a Christmas party, yet they can have an Easter party? Isn't Christmas more comercialized than Easter? I could see a 'Spring Festival' or some nonsense, but was surprised by this sudden outburst of Christian acceptance. Obviously they didn't discuss the real reason of the holiday only the pagan practices. So that was a great opening at the dinner table for an Easter lesson. At this dinner we were eating cheese fondue. Ok, Dan and I had fondue, Alex had pigs in a blanket and Ryan had steamed brocolli. Here is proof that he is a broccolli-ohlic. The important thing is that we sat at the table at the same time!
That night after the boys went to bed I made this scripture bag for Alex out of my scraps. Most people don't have pleather in their fabric scraps, but I had to make Jedi costumes, remember? I lined it with denim. This should withstand the beatings a child can inflict during 3 hours of church once a week for a few years I hope.
Saturday brought rain and cold, which I think I already wrote about.
Sunday was a lovely day. Dan didn't have meetings until 11:30am so we had our egg hunt around 10ish.
I hid the eggs while they bathed that morning. We never mentioned the Easter bunny. They know I hid the eggs, and that the gifts in their baskets were from us. We don't need a guy in a bunny suit to have fun on Easter!
Although, why not a few bunny ears!
I found this cute book at Deseret book about 'Jesus wants me for a Sunbeam' with a little duck. It was on clearance and Ryan loves it.
Walt came with the boys and me to Sacrament meeting. Dan and I taught the Sunbeams. That is work! We came home famished at 4:00pm and went to work. We had the Williams and Walt over for a nice Easter dinner. It was good food and good fun. They stayed until we put the kids to bed. We make the Williams come to our house since their house isn't really kid friendly. It works out perfect for us and I think they enjoy our youthful energy!
And what would a holiday in the Black family be with out a little vomit. So as I was sitting on the couch reading at 10:30pm I hear spewing. I go into Alex's room and find him asleep laying on his back vomiting. Talk about terrifying! I was worried that he was sufficating, so I sat him up and rolled him over. He had a fever and the shakes. Dan and I cleaned him up and set him up in the office. He seems to be fine today, but I had to keep him home from school. That was the first thing he said when I woke him in a pool of vomit, 'I won't be able to go to school tomorrow.' They get credit for the class when there is perfect attendance towards a non uniform day. Drats! It will be his fault today. Perhaps he'll be a little nicer to those other kids who make them miss it!

Lately

Last Sunday we went to the Frassas in Mesa for conference. Grandpa was playing with the boys and Grandma was feeding us a yummy meal as usual. The boys aren't exactly the most reverent lot, but they recognized the prophet so that is good. I really enjoyed Elder Holland's talk about the Savior. He set the mood for me this Easter week.

Dan got his cast off and the pins out. He now has a black brace. He is allowed 15 minutes of 'air' time when he can stretch his fingers, but he takes that 15 min stretch to last through a long show after the boys are in bed. The DR said it wasn't completely healed and so he has 2 more weeks before he goes back. Our insurance starts over May 1st, so his finger better get healin' or he won't be going back at all! (Yes, that is because Dan won't go after his deductible resets...)

It is cold and rainy today. Hooray! It is probably the last rain or cold we'll have for 6 months, at least. (It should rain in July for the Monsoon, but it isn't a friendly rain and doesn't really count.) Alex has made friends with some girls two houses over. They ride bikes and play basketball together. He wants to go outside and play because, 'Maybe those girls will come over.' I don't know if he has learned their names or not. Last I asked he hadn't.

The family is hungry. I better get back in the kitchen where a good mom belongs. I actually look forward to cooking these days because Ryan loves to help in the kitchen, and who doesn't love a bundle of trouble pulling out the crockpot and filling it with flour?
